What should your education section look like in an anesthesiologist resume? The education section of your resume lets a hiring manager know you have the proper training and qualifications to do the job. Because the healthcare industry is so widely regulated, hiring managers must have the ability to check your background completely to ensure you meet all requirements set by the government. To make their job a little easier, ensure your education section is complete with the names of your degrees, the names of the schools you attended, and the dates of completion. Look at the anesthesiologist resume sample to see how to write this section.2. What goes in the qualifications section of an anesthesiologist resume? The qualifications section, sometimes called the skills section, lists your attributes. It is a great place to talk yourself up and list key terms you find in the job description. Make sure you draw atten tion to unique abilities or special skills you have. In addition, include important job skills in this section. The anesthesiologist resume sample lists many common competencies you may want to include on your resume.3. What should you do to make sure your anesthesiologist resume makes it past an ATS?Many employers use a new way to work through resumes they get in response to a job ad. They use an applicant tracking system. The ATS scans each resume, looking for key terms and phrases that match what the employer wants in an applicant. To get past the ATS, you have to write your resume carefully. Include key terms found in the job description throughout your resume. Look to the anesthesiologist resume sample for some help with this.4. Whats the best length for an anesthesiologist resume? The general rule for resume length is to keep it to one page. This is a good length for busy hiring managers who read through multiple resumes in one day and dont have time to read long resumes. While you may have a lot to say and include in your resume, keep it as concise as possible, like in the anesthesiologist resume sample. Take the guesswork out and make writing your resume effortless with our resume builder. It takes you step-by-step through the process to help you create a winning resume that is just the right length.5. Whats the best format for a resume PDF, MS Word, or txt?To ensure the hiring manager can open your resume file, you should check the job description to see the preference. Most employers list this in the ad, but if they dont, then use MS Word or PDF. These formats are most widely acceptable. They also allow you to use special fonts, spacing, and other formatting to give your resume a polished and professional look. Consider how the anesthesiologist resume sample looks with its formatting and how the layout makes it easy to read.

Is your lunch making you depressed Fixing your diet may help
Is your lunch making you depressed Fixing your diet may helpIs your lunch making you depressed Fixing your diet may helpAre you feeling constantly down at work, unable to shake off that feeling even when you are home? What you are eating could be a factor. We are taught to examine whats going on in our heads when depression hits us. Less attention gets paid to what is going into our guts. But a new Wall Street Journal report wants us to rethink this, highlighting recent studies that link depression to bad diets.More fruits and vegetables can boost mental healthIn a 2017 study, people with depression reported a six-month mood boost after changing their diets to aMediterranean diet full of vegetables, fruit, legumes, nuts, whole grains and without tons of red meat. Dietary nutrients including vitamins, minerals, polyunsaturated fats and amino acids are essential for healthy brain structure and function, the researchers at the University of South Australia, who lumineszenzdiode the stud y, noted. With the increased personal, societal and financial burden of chronic physical and mental illness, getting back to basics by promoting cooking skills and family/group meals could be such a simple yet powerful and empowering approach to healthcare and prevention.A separate study presented at this years American Academy of Neurology meeting backed up that a nutrition-based strategy is not only good at combating depression, but also at preventing it. In the study, older adults who ate more vegetable and fruits were less likely to get depressed. What a healthy diet looks likeSo youre convinced and ready to overhaul your dietary lifestyle to join the happyMediterranean people - heres how to start. Start incorporating foods that are rich in vitamin B6, an ingredient needed to make the serotonin which keeps our moods in sync. Cabbage, sweet potatoes, bananas, and avocados have an abundance of this. Seek foods full of omega-3 fat like wild salmon that promote new brain cell growth. Cut back on your cow steaks and opt for more vitamin B6-foods like chicken and tuna.Eating more avocados is not an instant path to happiness, but being more mindful of what you are putting in your body increases your self-awareness of what you are doing to your body each day. It increases your mindfulness, a habit proven by science to increase our resilience. So, when you start paying attention to the desk lunches you are shoveling down your gullet, congratulate yourself - you are one step closer to changing your lifestyle overall.

What to Do When Your Boss Resigns - The Muse
What to Do When Your Boss Resigns - The MuseWhat to Do When Your Boss Resigns These days, its rare to meet someone whos been in the same position for his or her entire career. But, while fruchtwein of us understand that transitioning to another role is a near-certain eventuality for any professional, we often forget the fact that bosses move on, too.Its disruptive when anyone resigns from his or her post, but especially so when the head honcho is involved- after all, he or she was holding the group together, right? In my 14 years of having bosses, Ive seen a fair number move on to greener pastures, and Ive picked up a few dos and donts to help get me through (and even see the opportunity for greener pastures of my own). Dont PanicIll never forget the first time one of my bosses resigned to start his own business. (Back then, we called it retiring whenever someone got the entrepreneurial bug.) While Id think nothing of it now- Ive seen plenty of people do the same over the years- it wa s pretty upsetting at the time. I immediately assumed something was wrong with the company and that his departure was a sign of trouble. welches my job at risk? Were our benefits being cut? Was the companys reputation taking a turn for the worse? While its natural- and smart- to consider all these things whenever a major player hangs up his or her cleats, dont let it get the best of you. Remember, bosses are people, too, and its totally normal that theyll find other opportunities to pursue in their careers. And panicking about what you dont know- or dont have control over- isnt going to help you move forward.Do Investigate- DiscreetlyThat said, sometimes, there is trouble in paradise when a senior person bolts. For example, when one of the founding partners of my firm suddenly retired after spending the past decade growing the firm, I couldnt help but wonder if there was something going on besides his sudden interest in sailing around the world. So, doing a bit of covert research can help keep you informed and prepared.Whenever possible, go straight to the source for information (as, in, try to get the story from your boss, not from the rumor mill). If thats not possible- or plausible if you have limited access to your manager- youll need to do a little investigating.Ask around the office, but try to limit your questions to more senior-level individuals you respect. Express your regret to see your boss go, as well as your best wishes on his or her next endeavor. Then, casually ask if anyone knows where your boss is headed. The answer could tell you a lot about not only where he or she will end up, but how those in the know may feel about it.While theres no guarantee you can depend on this second-hand information as fact, getting a sense for your colleagues take on your bosses departure may give you a hint if theres trouble ahead (and you should be looking, too) or if you can start planning a farewell happy hour in good conscience.Dont Take it PersonallySeveral y ears ago, when one of my favorite bosses resigned, I took it really personally. Wed built up a great working relationship over the years, and shed become a valuable berater for me. When I discovered she was leaving, I was crushed. I even selfishly wondered, How could she do this to me?While its totally fair to feel bummed- even deserted- when your boss moves on, remember that any decision to leave a job is complicated, personal, and rarely taken lightly. While your manager probably considered how the gruppe might be impacted, at the end of the day, he or she had to do what was best. Share your support and excitement for your boss new endeavors and suggest you both keep in touch. Creating a positive last impression will show your appreciation for your boss leadership and start the foundation for a continued relationship down the road- wherever you both end up.Do Step Up Your GameAlthough losing a boss can be a challenge- both professionally and emotionally- there is a silver lining. After all, whenever a team changes its roster, theres an opportunity for you to step up your game.If possible, take your future-former-boss out for coffee and pick his or her brain about what the team needs from its next leader. Solicit feedback about your own performance, and see where you may be able to help fill those needs. (In my experience, folks who are on their way out are much more open to honest discussions about their work- and yours- when they know they dont have to run into you in the elevator every day for the next year.)Also, dont be afraid to share your ideas and offer suggestions on how youd like to contribute to the company in the future- your boss may be able to transition some of his or her responsibilities to you or suggest to others that youre up for taking on more.If your boss is jumping ship, just remember to keep calm and carry on, get the facts from trusted sources, keep from taking it personally, and always use the situation as an opportunity to step up yo ur own game. With a calm head, respect, and killer work ethic, youll show the higher-ups what youre made of and prove you can be depended on to help ease the transition to a new boss. nd who knows? That new boss could be you

In todays shaky job market, it can be petrifying.Scary, petrifying, or neither, networking must be a cornerstone of your job search strategy. If it doesnt come easily to you, follow these 10 commandments of networkingThou shalt learn the ways of social media, even if it scares the crap out of thou. Build a social media presence, especially on LinkedIn. Then, contribute to discussion groups to demonstrate your professional expertise. Tip Making a periodic adjustment to your profile can help move it toward the top of search rankings if someone were to do a web search for your name or, say, a previous employer.Thou shalt not limit thy networking efforts to the web. Social media is only an enabler. Theres no substitute for face-to-face communication i n the job search because you can discover much more about someone than whats posted on the web. So, attend job fairs and find job search beistand groups and professional associations in your area.Thou shalt giveth as gracefully as thou taketh. Dont engage with someone with the sole intent of finding a job lead or two. You have contacts. You have job leads that may not interest you but may interest someone else. Share that information with other job seekers. The more youre seen as a giver, the easier it will be for others to share their contacts and leads with you.Thou shalt know thyself well. You must be able to articulate your skills and experience clearly, in writing and in casual conversation.Thou shalt not cometh off as stiff. Seriously, you gotta loosen up. Be congenial, look others in the eye, and show a genuine interest in what they say. Live in the momentThou shalt smile, even if it hurts. Smiling is usually equated with congeniality. If youre self-conscious about your yello w teeth, whiten them.Thou shalt have a business card and resume ready at all times. Go into each event thinking youll meet someone who will want to know more about your background, and who may refer your name and contact information to someone else (possibly your next boss). Your business card and resume should include the internetadresse to your web site or social networking profile.Thou shalt giveth thyself a thorough, critical self-evaluation after every in-person networking event. Take a few minutes to think about things you said and how you said them. If you think you could have expressed something better, make adjustments for the next event.Thou shalt wear the right clothing to every in-person event. Shorts and sandals wont cut it, unless its a beach party or picnic. Proper business attire is appropriate for networking events unless the organizer states otherwise.Thou shalt not be a pain in the posterior. Theres a fine line between staying in touch and stalking. Make sure ever y interaction either in person, via email, or online has substance and value.Your mission in networking is to get hired while helping others get hired. Its serious stuff and theres potential in every substantive interaction. In todays economy, you need to explore every possible route to land the job.

The War Against My Resume Now
The War Against My Resume Now Resumes may be used for a number of reasons, but most often theyre utilized to secure new employment. They may be organized in different ways. They are typically quite short often only about a page but they are often the first chance you will have to make an impression. They are tricky its sometimes difficult to know exactly what to include. Because resumes have limited space, yur career objective has to be concise. You can also make hashtags with keywords that recruiters might hunt for so you can be readily found. With the debut of creative bots, LinkedIn could turn out to be as great as OkCupid. LinkedIn isnt a work board, it is a professional networking website. Youre gonna need to push. The very last thing you would like is for your resume to let you down when youre actually the most suitable pick for the job. Among the things you wish to show us is that you understand how to follow directions. At no point does this say youll be charged u ntil after youve done all of the work. All you need to do is point and click. Completing the education section may be hard if you continue to be in school, or have only recently graduated. So there isnt any historical reason. Things You Should Know About My Resume Now The founder of the organization is Kevin Miller. If you are not certain of the hiring managers gender, you may use their very first and last name. Employers care much more about your successes, and the way it is possible to mirror them at their company. The business is situated in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Overloading your resume with information that isnt really associated with your abilities or job-related talents is rarely a great concept, as it can create the employer or job recruiter to shed interest and continue on to the next candidate. Simply saying that you are interested in getting the job is not too compelling, but something that describes how you aspire to use your individual skills to fulfill a defin ed end in the employers industry can be very convincing. Apparently, my career change wasnt financially motivated. At the close of the day, the success tarif might still count on the standing of your university and the kind of employers coming to the university career center site to find candidates. Certifications are a means to make sure that people actually have a baseline of knowledge in a specific area. You will also need to incorporate all your work and education info. The qualified experts have written the very best papers in many distinct places. My private network probably doubled in size because of my article collection. To save a good deal of heartache down the road, be certain you use our resume builder to create a document that could be easily transferred to several job applications. Youve submitted a work application or sent your resume to an organization youd really like to interview with, but you neednt heard back. If you would like to become our VIP client, well gladly supply you with such a possibility. Most of our customers make the exact same steps ahead of ordering our services. Since the point is to convey your qualifications in an immediate fashion, you should strive for greatest clarity. If you want to relocate for work, you most likely already know its most effective to leave your present address off your resume. Therefore, taking the opportunity to thoroughly craft a new version for each job youre applying to is usually advisable. You do remember which you need to stand out and it looks like nothing will be able to help you with achieving that when you use a template.Last, be absolutely sure to devote the opportunity to complete your profile so you that its visible and you will match with the most suitable search terms to increase your odds of being found. There are likely hundreds of different examples of poor sentence construction, but you have the idea. Based at work, it may also be worthwhile to list particular skills like typing speed, phone communication, or public speaking experience. Some folks still wish to make the most of LinkedIns resume import feature.

Its American Business Womens Day; Thrive by Starting a Business You Love
Its American Business Womens Day Thrive by Starting a Business You Love In thinking about American Business Womens Day on September 22, Im filled with gratitude and inspiration. The U.S. certainly has its share of gender inequality, but as a former school teacher turned womens entrepreneurship coach and CEO of my own company, I know it is possible for women to transform theirentrepreneurial visions, aspirations, and energy into reality. And yet, according to a recentTechCrunch article, only 17 percent of new geschftsleben endeavors have female entrepreneurs at the helm. Women are still in the entrepreneurial minority.Just as women are good for the world of entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship is good for women. It offers an unprecedented chance to take control ofyur career and tap into yur unique gifts and passions while earning more money and enjoying greater freedom. Many womendream of doing just that, yet wonder Can somebody like me, with just the spark of an idea, actually start a geschftlicher umgang and make money? The answer is a resounding yes. However, starting your entrepreneurial journeymay require challenging some of yourcore beliefs. Maybe you were told that work cant be fun or that you have to be realistic about whats possible.Maybe you were encouraged to be nice, to be quiet, to minimize your accomplishments, and to dim your own light. One common core belief I encounter in coaching women entrepreneurs is the idea that a womanmust curb her femininity in order to be successful in business. In the competitive, dog-eat-dog business environment, women must adopt the hard edge, appearance, and mannerisms traditionally exhibited by men to be great workplace leaders and entrepreneurs. The reality is that, as women, our unique feminine qualities can become our greatest business assetsCooperative SpiritWomen are gifted at prioritizing the needs of others. We have an intuitive understanding of how to create meaningful connections and exceptional working relationships with clients and colleagues. This is I what I refer to as a cooperative advantage. The emphasis is on cooperative as opposed to competitive. By prizing collaboration over competition and contribution over greed, women are able to leverage communities and relationships as valuable entrepreneurial resources.Valuing GenerosityAccording to TheHuffington Post,64 percent of donations are made by women, globally speaking. Indeed, women are innately awareof the needs and challenges of our times, and we often feel a deep sense of social responsibility. We have the opportunity to build businesses that champion much-needed social change and give back to our communities. From working with women entrepreneurs for the past decade, Ive found that once our needs and the needs of our families are met, we tend to lose interest in generating more money. When we adopt humanitarian causes or service-based missions above and beyond our immediate client bases, however, we rise above our typical income levels. Now, we have reason to generate more. This positive cycle gives impetus to our entrepreneurial prowess.People-Pleasing TendenciesThroughout history, women have been accused of people-pleasing, avoiding conflict, and perpetually putting others needs before their own. But guess what thesevery qualities are why we now excel in business With a good dose of awareness, we can leverage our people-pleasing tendencies into powerful skills that help us attract clients and keep them.In leveraging our unique feminine qualities, we may not start the same types of businesses as men, and thats okay. Were starting businesses because we want balance between our careers and our families. Were starting businesses because we long to be the masters of our own schedules and we want to express our creativity and our true selves at work. We want to share our deeply innovative gifts with the world. We want to work for ourselves on our own terms without compromising who we are. This, too, is possible. The women Ive worked with have built successful and sustainable businesses on their own terms as authors, health practitioners, consultants, coaches, manufacturers, retailers, real estate agents, day spa owners, healers, clothing designers, aspiring public speakers, restaurant owners, and much more.Through these initiatives, they have claimed their financial freedom and self-determination. Most importantly, they have thrived. This American Business Womens Day, my advice is this Hold onto your idea, believe it is possible, and bring your whole self flaws and feminine qualities included to the table.Sage Lavine is the CEO of Women Rocking Business.

Seeing the Opportunity in a Crisis
Seeing the Opportunity in a Crisis Seeing the Opportunity in a Crisis Six years ago I was laid off. Actually, as the VP of HR, I laid myself off but thats semantics. The end result was that I didnt have a job.At first I did the usual. I sent my resume to headhunters, contacted my network, and applied to a few posted positions. But this time my heart wasnt in it. This was the third time in 5 years that I had lost my job through no fault of my own. The first time, my employer shut down its US office. Then my next employer moved from New York City to San Diego less than a year after I joined them. I didnt want to move so I found myself looking again. Now my new company was sliding towards bankruptcy and once again I was on the market. It was especially hard to take for me because I had stayed with my first employer for 13 years Now it seemed I couldnt even get my feet under the desk before it was time to move on.And thats when I decided to stop looking for a job and make my own. I was t ired of being at other peoples mercy. At least if I was going to fail, I wanted it to be my fault. And if I was going to make my own job, it had to be something I really enjoyed and something I knew I would be good at. Thats how I settled on resume writing I love writing, I have always been good at strategizing, and as a former HR exec, I knew exactly what made a resume work. And so Blue Sky Resumes was born and I left the corporate world behind me forever.Jason Alba has a similar story. After being laid off in 2006, Jason started to look for another job in IT and geschftlicher umgang strategy. Finding that he needed a place to organize his job search information, he developed his own database. Then, as he learned the importance of networking, he expanded the system so that it also stored his networking contact information. From that purely practical starting point, Jason wound up developing and marketing Jibber Jobber, a full job search and relationship management system. Like me, hes also gone on to write books and he frequently speaks about job search and networking at conferences and events across the country.I havent asked Jason, but I bet hes glad that lay-off happened. I certainly am.Thats not to say that the entrepreneurial life is for everyone you may hate the idea of starting your own business. Its just to say that there are often other options. Ive know people who have made complete career changes after being laid off. Ive known others who have decided to take a step down the corporate ladder. One person went to work for a non-profit. Another moved across the country and started again. Hearing that you are about to lose your job is terribly upsetting especially in this economy but theres no doubt that sometimes a layoff can actually be an opportunity. How about you? Has bad news ever turned out to be a good thing for you? If so, tell us in the comments. I know other readers going through worrying times would appreciate hearing your story.

How video can help humanize your recruiting
How video can help humanize your recruitingHow video can help humanize your recruitingHow video can help humanize your recruitingHeres something you know all too well To reel in top talent, you need to not just capture their attentionyouve got todazzle them. And these days, dazzling means a lot more than just bulleted job descriptions. One powerful way to do this is by using video to enhance your companys job postings, employer branding and recruitment efforts.Video lets recruitersshow, as well as tell, which is one way tocapture the hearts and minds of top candidates. And according to 2019 State of the Candidate Survey, 80% of Americans agree that a video of a recruitertalking about a role as part of a job ad would help them better understand a job opportunity.Video content is a part of how we take in information today, says Meghan M. Biro, founder of TalentCulture, a workplace culture and HR strategy group. Not having videos just decreases a companys potential appeal and ability to grab its audiencein this case, potential applicants.Consider this A recent survey from Statista found that 85% of U.S. Internet users watch video across devices, and job seekers are no exception. Millennials and generation Z job seekers are particularly receptive to videos, says Kevin Grossman, president of the Talent Board, a non-profit focused on promoting quality candidate experiences. In addition, video software company Wistia recently saw a 2.6x increase in time spent on Web pages with video than without. Visitors spent, on average, 7 minutes and 21 seconds on pages with video, compared to only 2 minutes and 48 seconds on pages without video. But its more than about getting more eyeballs on your career site or job description. The real benefit of video is that it brings your job, your company and its people to life. This helps candidates make better decisions about whether your position is the right fit for them, helping them to self-select. And that means more time for you to do what you do best hire great talent. Before you take the next step and add video to your recruitment strategy, consider these best practices to help put your companys best foot forwardKeep it briefYes, you want your videos to feel real and relatable, but keep your audience engaged, your videos must be concise. Grossman says 1 to 3 minutes is ideal. Its short, but people have short attention spans, he points out. If its longer than 5 minutes, youre probably going to lose your audience. As Biro puts it, No one wants to sit through the equivalent of a Drivers Ed video when theyre racing through job portals or squeezing a job search into a busy day.Keep it realAuthenticity is key, particularly in todays zeitgeist, where a lack of authenticity is a big strike against your company, says Bruce Tulgan, author of Its Okay to Manage Your Boss The Step-by-Step Program for Making the Best of Your Most Important Relationship at Work.Your videos have to be on-brand, and they must accurately reflect your companys mission and core values.Grossman says companies should not use actors to portray employees, nor should you aim to create something polished or corporate feeling. Thats the opposite if what candidates want to see.Biro agreesAuthentic means you dont have an outside director who doesnt know your company at all come in and create a video that has nothing to do with your company, she says. Authentic means also showing the people who work theretheir personalities, their work behaviorsand letting them speak.Dont slick it up and make it look like a packaged mythological version of your organization, Biro adds. Show the real office, try to show aspects of the real culture, and truly convey what your organization feels like, looks like, and works like.Keep it shiny, but not too shinyWant the good news about video? You dont need a lot of expensive equipment to create great video content, says HR consultant Tim Sackett. Some of the best employment videos on the planet are done on an iPhone, he says.In fact, Studios, Monsterssoon-to-be-released app that lets recruiters record, edit and post videos post job descriptions, uses an iPhone. No fancy camera needed.Hackett does suggest investing in a professional lighting and sound system for your companys videos. The magic of great video isnt necessarily a better camera, but great lighting and clear sound, he explains. After all, you want candidates to clearly see and hear the homilie youre trying to convey.Keep it actionableVideo isnt just another shiny new object, just there as a branding tool on your career site. To make your videos most effective, youll want to make sure that your story and/or script follows this tried-and-true formulaFirst, start with a hook, something compelling that makes the viewer want to see more. Maybe its an unexpected question, maybe a little-known fact about your company or the job, maybe its just something lighthearted and fun that shows that recruiters are people too.Next, be sure to include the Whats in it for me? section. This is where you outline the details of whatever youre trying to convey. This is the meat of your video. It could be the details of a particular job description, or it might share highlights of the workplace culture you want viewers to appreciate. And finally, you always need a CTA. Tell your viewer to do something after theyve watched. Maybe you want them to check out the open jobs on your site. Maybe youd like them to submit a resume or contact a specific recruiter. After all, as funny or beautifully shot as your video is, what you really want is to get people to act.
The Essentials of Copyright Laws
The Essentials of Copyright LawsThe Essentials of Copyright LawsHow do copyrights work? Its always better to simply give leistungspunkt to an author any time you use someone elses work, even if you are bedrngnis required to.This may not only help protect you legally from being sued for copyright infringement, but it shows youre a professional who practices good business ethics. The De Minimis Principle Applied to Copyrights The de minimis principle is the legal term that describes issues that may seem big to an individual but arent, necessarily, under the law.Essentially, it means Some things are just too small to be bothered with. This principle applies to many areas of law, including copyrights. Whether or not something is specifically subject to de minimis interpretation is entirely up to a court of law, so its important to talk to an attorney before heading off to court. Copyrights May Not Protect Little Things While it can be said, the little things in life matter, this isnt always true when it comes to copyrightlaws. Examples of things that may be too small to warrant copyright protections include Newspaper or magazine headlinesThe title of a book, poem, or songUsing small quotes from a material that has copyright (but you still have to give credit to the author)Minor changes to quoted material, such as correcting a typographical error, wouldnt be considered a significant copyright infringement Ringtones Created From CDs and CopyrightInfringement Ringtones created from CDs or other published sources of music are not copyrightinfringement if the person who creates them only uses them for their own phone and in no way publishes, promotes, or benefits financially from the created ringtone. However, if you seek to share, promote, or profit in any way from the ringtone you created without permission, its an act of copyright infringement. While laws could change, for now, creating a ringtone from a song for personal use is no different in legal signi ficance than quoting a sentence from a published source, and its permissible under the Fair Use Act. The Poor Mans Copyright Some people still believe that simply mailing yourself a sealed envelope showing proof that you created work is sufficient to protect your rights to your own works. This practice is often referred to as the poor mans copyright. Its anything but reliable, and it may or may not offer evidence in a court of law should legal action result from your claim to ownership. The United States Postal Service (USPS) neither requires nor checks to see if an envelope is sealed before its mailed. Because envelopes can be tampered with and documents can be exchanged, self-sealed mailings shouldnt be relied on as solid legal evidence of your copyrights to any gestalt of expression. The USPS doesnt condone self-addressed mail as proof of ownership, and it clearly warns consumers not to use registered or certified mail. If you have something really important to you, of potent ial or significant value, its well worth the time and money to protect your interests through formal copyright registration. There are also online resources where you can upload digital images of material to show proof of the creation date. Youre then sent email verification with a return copy of your digital image. However, only formal registrationcan offer you certain legal remedies. If you havent registered copyright, you cant even sue someone for copyright infringement in the United States. And, if you didnt register your copyright in a timely manner (90 days or less), your right to recover damages in court will be severely limited. You can register a copyright online for $35. Paper applications cost $45 to file. Simply Repeating Copyrights Doesnt Satisfy the Law There are many ways you can show something you created has been copyrighted because how you show your work has copyright is more a matter of preference than U.S. law. Sometimes, authors also use the words All Rights Reserved, or All Intellectual Rights Reserved. Neither is really necessary, as copyright already indicates that your rights are protected. However, an author is not even required to show copyrightin order to be able to assert their rights. For example, a signature on a painting is sufficient for the painter to claim rights the painter does not need to add anything further about copyrights to the painting itself.Music is similar, in that the songs you hear on the radio dont have disclaimers read out loud each time a new song is played. However, many authors do allow you to freely use their works without specific permission. Some dont care and state that anyone can do anything without giving credit, but some require you to show their copyright in a certain format as a condition of use. When using material from someone else, its very important you honor the authors request as to how they want credit shown. If you dont accurately comply with the instructions, and the use is authorized onl y if you give credit in a very particular way, you could still be violating someone elses copyrights.
